COCOBOD increases cocoa price to GH¢2,650 per bag for 2026/2027 season
The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced a new producer price for cocoa ahead of the 2026/2027 season, raising the price per tonne from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400.
This translates to GH¢2,650 per 64kg bag, up from GH¢2,587 previously.
The announcement was made by the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, as part of preparations for the opening of the new cocoa season.
The upward adjustment adds GH¢1,008 per tonne, or about 2.4 percent.
Dr. Abbey also disclosed that the realised Free-On-Board (FOB) price for the season stands at US$2,650 per tonne.
At the new producer price, farmers will receive 71.18 percent of the FOB value.
According to COCOBOD, the figure underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring farmers earn a fair share of returns from their produce.
The new price comes amid ongoing reforms in the cocoa sector aimed at restoring COCOBOD’s financial health while safeguarding farmer incomes.
It also follows the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, which introduces an automatic price adjustment mechanism tied to world market prices and exchange rates, and guarantees farmers a minimum of 70 percent of the gross FOB price.
Meanwhile, COCOBOD is shifting its financing model for cocoa purchases, moving away from heavy dependence on international syndicated loans. The Board plans to roll out a Cocoa Notes Programme to raise funds from the domestic capital market to support purchases and operations.
The 2026/2027 season thus opens under a new pricing and financing regime expected to influence purchasing and farmer earnings in the months ahead
