Former Dormaa West Assembly Member raises alarm over soaring rent prices in Nkrankwanta
A former Assembly Member of the Dormaa West District Assembly, Charles Amponsah Tweneboa-Kodua, has expressed deep concern over the worsening rent crisis in Nkrankwanta, warning that skyrocketing housing costs threaten the development of the town.
Mr. Tweneboa-Kodua, who served as a government appointee from 2019 to 2024 and chaired the Works Subcommittee, said it was disheartening to learn from recent reports, including a social media post by #NkrankwantaMustDevelop, that rent prices have deteriorated since he left office.
In a statement, he recalled that during his tenure, the Assembly worked closely with Nananom and the Rent Control Department to address the issue, and urged the current Assembly, traditional leaders and the Rent Control Department to take immediate action to reverse the trend.
He appealed to landlords and landladies in Nkrankwanta to reconsider the long-term impact of high rents, particularly on newly posted workers who are critical to the district’s progress.
“If housing costs remain high, we risk scaring away qualified professionals who might otherwise come to our town. This could lead to staffing shortages in essential services like healthcare and education, which would ultimately hinder the growth and well-being of Nkrankwanta,” he cautioned.
Mr. Tweneboa-Kodua called for renewed collaboration among all stakeholders to find practical and sustainable solutions to make housing affordable for all, stressing that the future development of Nkrankwanta depends on it.”Nkrankwanta truly deserves the opportunity to develop,” he added.
