Ghana, Philippines agree to deepen trade and investment ties

NEW YORK — Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to deepen trade and investment cooperation, convene business fora in both countries, and establish a joint chamber of commerce to drive private sector engagement.

The commitment was affirmed during a bilateral meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Hon. Ablakwa conveyed Ghana’s commendation to the Government of the Philippines for its decision to open an Embassy in Ghana later this year — a first in the history of Ghana-Philippines bilateral relations.

The two sides also agreed to exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements.

Both ministers described the meeting as impactful, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries.
