The High Court in Accra has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, and to search for and seize documents relevant to an ongoing investigation.

The order, granted on September 30, 2026, follows an application by EOCO, which told the court it had exhausted all reasonable means to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance.

The court directed that the warrant be executed through the Speaker of Parliament.

EOCO said it is investigating alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, involving alleged financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering, among other offences.

According to EOCO, led by Executive Director Raymond Archer, the MP was invited twice in February 2026 as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a firm engaged by SIC Life to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with the defunct Equity Savings and Loans, a debt which had grown to about GH¢14 million with interest.

The Office told the court it feared relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed if the orders were not granted.

The latest development follows a confrontation at the Accra High Court on September 23, when EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah shortly after he appeared as counsel in the Ghana Jollof case. EOCO said the attempted arrest was lawful under Section 19 of Act 804 to secure his attendance.

Mr Baffour Awuah has disputed EOCO’s account. He insisted he is not the subject of the probe, arguing the February 10 invitation was addressed to the Senior Partner of the firm and that after becoming an MP, he referred it to the Clerk to Parliament on February 18.

He said a representative of the firm cooperated with EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30, and filed a formal statement, with no further invitation until the attempted arrest.

Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem Sai, confirmed the issuance of the warrant, stating it followed the MP’s failure to honour the EOCO invitation since February 2026.

The MP is expected to appear before EOCO today, with former Attorney-General Atta Akyea and other top lawyers set to accompany him.
