Janet Nabla accuses Mahama of disrespecting women, calls government a “Military Regime”

PNP 2024 Presidential candidate, Janet Asana Nabla, has launched a scathing attack on President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the government of persecuting women and lawyers defending them.
In a video shared on Facebook, Ms Nabla said she was not surprised by the treatment being meted out to lawyer Baffour Awuah, who is representing some arrested women.
“I’m not surprised the way President Mahama and the NDC are treating lawyer Baffour,” she said. “If a government is capable of arresting young women who have done nothing, and locking them up – some of them are in prison, others are in remand, others are standing at the High Court for various frivolous things – what would he do to the lawyer who is supporting them?”
Ms Nabla described the current administration as a “military regime” rather than a democracy, and accused President Mahama of being “wicked” and “heartless,” claiming the mistreatment extends to women within his own party.
“This is a wicked, heartless man who is doing it to his party too,” she stated. “Whenever I go for a programme, and I see an NDC woman there trying to defend Mahama, it pains me to the core.”
She was particularly critical of what she described as the President’s disregard for the Vice President of Ghana.
“If I were the women, especially the Vice President, I would have resigned. President Mahama doesn’t respect the Vice President of Ghana. He doesn’t even see her as anybody. He doesn’t regard her,” Ms Nabla said.
According to her, if the President held the Vice President in high regard, the arrests and prosecution of women and their lawyers would not be happening.
Ms Nabla further accused President Mahama of failing to meet the 30 per cent representation for women as required by law, and of insulting NDC women.
“The law says he should give them 30% representation. He said they have not gone to school. He told us that. Meanwhile, the same people are running from one radio station, television station, to another, to help in supporting the same party that is maltreating and then insulting them for not going to school,” she added.
She concluded that the ongoing actions against the lawyer were consistent with what she described as a pattern of disregard for women under the Mahama administration.
