Kojo Bamba: The Grassroots warrior now NPP’s number 2 man

Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, is one of the most striking grassroots-to-top stories in the New Patriotic Party’s recent history. Elected as the party’s National First Vice Chairman at the October 2026 Delegates Conference in Kumasi, he topped 12 other aspirants with 3,116 votes to claim the position.

Bamba’s background is far from the typical political elite path. He started out as an auto mechanic in the Ashanti Region before becoming deeply involved in NPP activism at the local level. His name became widely known as the leader of Delta Force, the pro-NPP vigilante group that rose to prominence after the party’s 2016 electoral victory.

The group was at the centre of national controversy, particularly following its opposition to the appointment of George Adjei as Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, an incident that led to violence and subsequent court convictions and fines for some members.

Rather than fading after that turbulent period, Bamba worked his way into formal party structures. In 2018 he was appointed as Deputy National Director of Operations within the NPP’s youth wing, marking a clear shift from informal activism to organised party administration. Those who have worked with him also recall his time as a close aide and bodyguard to Henry Nana Boakye, now the party’s Second Vice Chairman.

His 2026 campaign was built firmly on a grassroots message. He argued that constituency executives are the true foot soldiers of the NPP, the people who mobilise voters, guard ballot boxes and sustain the party between elections, yet are often neglected once power is won. He promised to champion their welfare and inclusion in decision making, and to help unite the base behind flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2028 general elections.

His election signals the NPP’s recognition of loyal grassroots organisers and completes a remarkable personal journey from mechanic and vigilante leader to one of the highest offices in the party.
