Accra – Members of Parliament have urged Ghana to treat the Open Government Partnership (OGP) as a home-grown reform agenda, rather than a donor-driven initiative, as the country marks OGP Week.

Delivering a joint statement on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvabira, Member of Parliament for Tempane and Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, and Hon. Emmanuel K. Bedzrah, Chairman of the OGP Caucus in Parliament, described the OGP as “an important platform for strengthening democratic governance and rebuilding public confidence in state institutions.

”The statement was made to commemorate OGP Week, observed annually from May 18 to May 22.

“We must treat its implementation not as a donor-driven project but as a national reform agenda owned by Parliament, the Executive Branch, and the People,” the legislators said.

They noted that Ghana has remained a committed member of the Open Government Partnership since joining in September 2011 and has recorded significant progress through the platform over the years.

OGP Week is used globally to highlight commitments to transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and anti-corruption. Ghana’s OGP Caucus in Parliament has been active in pushing for stronger legislative backing for open government commitments.
