Former Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and flagbearer of the NPP led a delegation of the New Patriotic Party NPP to a productive consultative meeting with the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

The high-level engagement focused on Ghana’s development agenda, national unity, and strategies for shared progress as the country moves toward future elections and economic reforms.

NPP Reaffirms Commitment To Religious Partnership

During the discussions, Dr Bawumia reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to sustained engagement with religious bodies. He described churches and faith-based organizations as key partners in promoting peace, inclusivity, and prosperity for all Ghanaians.

The NPP delegation emphasized that national development cannot succeed without the moral and social influence of religious institutions. The party pledged to continue working closely with the Christian Council on policies affecting families, education, health, and community welfare.

Focus On Peace, Inclusivity And Shared Progress

Talks between the NPP and the Christian Council centered on issues critical to Ghana’s stability. These included strengthening national unity amid political competition, fostering inclusivity in governance, and creating pathways for shared prosperity across regions and demographics.

The Christian Council leadership shared valuable insights on community needs, ethical leadership and the role of faith in national cohesion. Both sides agreed that dialogue between political actors and religious leaders is essential for preventing division and promoting tolerance.

“Grateful For Warm Reception” – NPP

The NPP expressed appreciation for the Council’s hospitality and candor. “We are deeply grateful to the Council for the warm reception and valuable insights shared. Together, we are moving forward,” the party stated after the meeting.

The engagement adds to Dr Bawumia’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders since leaving office. Religious bodies like the Christian Council have historically played mediating roles during elections and periods of national debate in Ghana.

Religious Bodies As Development Partners

With Ghana facing economic recovery challenges and calls for greater social cohesion, partnerships between government, political parties, and faith leaders are seen as crucial. The Christian Council represents major Protestant and Orthodox churches and has influence in policy advocacy on education, healthcare, and social justice.

The June 11 meeting signals the NPP’s strategy to maintain grassroots connections and build consensus on national issues beyond partisan lines.
