Accra, July 8, 2026

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for its National Delegates Conference, where party delegates will elect new National Officers to steer the affairs of the party ahead of future national elections.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and dated July 8, 2026, the party said the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and later approved by the National Council at their respective meetings held on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

According to the letter addressed to all stakeholders, the conference will be held pursuant to Article 10(1) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates the election of national officers at a National Delegates Conference.

Beyond the elections, the party has also opened the window for constitutional reforms. The General Secretary, acting under Article 19(2) of the Party Constitution, has formally invited proposals for amendments to the party’s constitution ahead of the conference.

“All proposed amendments should be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary at the Party’s National Headquarters or transmitted electronically via [email protected],” the statement noted.

The deadline for submission of all proposals is Friday, July 17, 2026. The party is urging members, constituencies, and other stakeholders to take advantage of the review process to submit proposals that will “further strengthen the Party’s structures, enhance its internal democratic processes, and promote effective governance.”

The announcement signals the beginning of internal political activity within the NPP as factions and aspirants begin positioning themselves for the key national executive positions. The election of national officers is expected to set the tone for the party’s reorganization and strategy going into the next electoral cycle.

The NPP emphasized that as it prepares for the conference, it “remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law, ensuring adherence to the Party Constitution and its democratic traditions.”

The National Delegates Conference remains the highest decision-making body of the party outside congress, and the September 19 date is expected to draw thousands of delegates from across the country to Accra.

With the call for constitutional amendments now open, the next few weeks are expected to see intense debate within the party on reforms related to party structure, candidate selection, and internal discipline.

The General Secretary concluded the statement with a call for unity and active participation, urging all members to contribute to building a stronger NPP under the party’s motto: “Development in Freedom.”
