EOCO grants Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, GH¢50M bail with 3 sureties

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.
The NPP MP voluntarily surrendered himself at EOCO’s premises at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, to assist investigators with an ongoing investigation.
The development follows an arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court after EOCO informed the court that previous efforts to secure the MP’s attendance for questioning had not yielded the desired outcome.
What is the investigation about?
The investigations concern allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters.
Mr Baffour Awuah has denied receiving the alleged GH¢2.2 million as legal fees and has disputed aspects of EOCO’s account of its earlier attempts to secure his attendance.
EOCO has stressed that the investigations remain ongoing and urged the public not to conclude the culpability of any individual before the investigative and judicial processes are completed.
Background
Earlier, Baffour Awuah resisted arrest, describing it as an “unlawful arrest” and an “attempted kidnapping”, and later sought sanctuary at Parliament.
According to EOCO, the MP had been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with its investigations, but failed to honour the invitations.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has challenged EOCO to focus on drug kingpins behind Ghana-linked trafficking networks rather than political opponents, following the MP’s detention.
