Accra, Oct. 2, 2026 —

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) says it sought the urgent intervention of the National Security Council Secretariat to remove unauthorised occupants from the beachfront adjoining and directly in front of the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

In a media release dated October 2, 2026, issued by the Board of Trustees, SSNIT said the two hotels form part of its investment portfolio and constitute significant national hospitality and tourism assets belonging to Ghanaian workers and pensioners.

According to SSNIT, it has a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard the investments, preserve their value and ensure they continue to generate sustainable returns for contributors and pensioners under the Basic National Social Security Scheme.

The Trust listed the risks posed by the continued encroachment as threats to the safety and security of guests, employees and visitors; unauthorised access to sensitive guest and operational areas; exposure to fire, sanitation, environmental and public-health hazards; deterioration of beachfront privacy and service standards; degradation of the coastal ecosystem; reputational damage to the hotels, SSNIT and Ghana’s tourism industry; disruption of hotel operations and revenue; and the risk of further expansion making recovery of the lands more difficult and costly.

“In view of the foregoing, SSNIT requested support from National Security to protect the assets belonging to Ghanaian workers,” the statement said.

SSNIT added that the beaches will be cleaned and restored to a safe and desirable state and will remain open to the public.
