NPP condemns ‘death threats’ by NDC officers, calls for police action
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denounced what it terms as threats of death and physical violence made by senior members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) against several of its prominent leaders.
The NPP reported that their Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, have all received threats from the NDC’s First National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, along with Abuakwa North Constituency Communication Officer, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Amadu.
This information was revealed in a statement that was signed and released by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Wednesday, September 3.
Additionally, the party accused Chief Azorka and what it referred to as his “notorious hoodlums” of physically assaulting its 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, labeling the incident as “unprovoked and reckless.”
The NPP asserted that the conduct of the NDC officials constitutes an attack on Ghana’s democratic advancement and could exacerbate insecurity at a time when the nation has already seen a drop in the Global Peace Index ranking.
“The recklessness displayed by Chief Sofo Azorka and Alhaji Abdul Wahab must be thoroughly investigated and penalized,” a portion of the statement indicated.
Furthermore, the NPP announced its intention to formally file a complaint with the Ghana Police Service against the two officials and urged the Inspector-General of Police to initiate their immediate arrest and investigation.
