The Head of Legal of the United Party (UP), Andrew Appiah Danquah, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership, including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and President John Mahama, over their ongoing nationwide “Thank You” tours, urging them instead to prioritise addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges.

He argued that the post-election tours do not reflect what citizens expect from a governing party after winning power, especially at a time when many Ghanaians are facing economic and social difficulties.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah has been touring parts of the country following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, engaging supporters and expressing appreciation for their electoral support. President Mahama has also been embarking on a “Resetting Ghana Tour” aimed at communicating government policies and thanking voters for their support in 2024.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, May 23, Mr. Appiah Danquah maintained that while political gratitude is not misplaced, it must be demonstrated through effective governance rather than symbolic engagements.

He insisted that if the NDC leadership genuinely intends to thank Ghanaians, then the focus should be on implementing policies that improve living conditions and resolve the country’s challenges.

According to him, citizens are more concerned about tangible improvements in their daily lives than political tours after elections.

“In my honest opinion, it is not a ‘Thank You’ tour. I also have an issue with this whole concept of ‘Thank You’ tour. I don’t want to rehash the problems we are facing. Thank us by solving our problems. That is the best ‘Thank You,’” he said.

Mr. Appiah Danquah further cautioned that the governing party’s handling of its early post-election activities could shape public perception of its performance going forward, urging it to remain focused on delivering results rather than political optics.
