Asante Kotoko apologizes to fans after disappointing 8th-place finish in 2025/26 GPL season
Kumasi, Ghana – May 2026
Asante Kotoko have publicly apologized to supporters and promised “decisive measures” after ending the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season in 8th place, their lowest finish in over a decade.
In a statement released by the club’s Board and Management, Kotoko admitted the campaign fell “far below the standards, expectations, and ambitions” of the Porcupine Warriors.
Kotoko entered the season as one of the title favorites, but inconsistent form, managerial changes, and defensive struggles left them marooned in mid-table. The 8th-place finish means the club will miss out on continental qualification for the second consecutive year.

“This outcome falls far below the standards, expectations, and ambitions of our great club,” the statement read. “While football always offers another opportunity to rise again, we acknowledge that this season’s performance is one to forget.
”The club did not specify what the “decisive measures” would be, but sources close to the board say a squad overhaul and changes to the technical team are being considered ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Despite the poor run, Kotoko acknowledged the role of supporters who traveled across the country to back the team.
“We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our loyal supporters who travelled across the country and stood firmly behind the team throughout the campaign,” the statement said. “Your unwavering commitment and passion remain the backbone of this club. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and frustration caused by our performance this season.

”Kotoko’s average home attendance at Baba Yara Stadium dropped by nearly 35% in the second half of the season, according to Ghana League data, as frustration grew among the fanbase.
The Board assured supporters that efforts are underway to restore the club to the top of Ghanaian and African football.
“We remain committed to building a stronger and more competitive team capable of delivering the successes our supporters deserve,” the statement continued.
Kotoko last won the Ghana Premier League in 2021/22. Since then, rivals Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars have dominated the title race, while Kotoko have struggled with instability off the pitch.
The club ended the statement with their traditional rallying call: “Wokum Apem A, Apem Beba. Together we shall rise again.”What’s Next for Kotoko?
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is expected to kick off in September. Club insiders say Kotoko will announce changes to the technical team and transfer targets within the next 4 weeks. Fans will be watching closely to see if the board delivers on its promise to rebuild a squad capable of challenging for the title.
