Accra, Ghana – A petition has been submitted to the Ghana Police Service requesting an investigation into recent allegations made by Power FM presenter Mugabe Maase regarding alleged links between some District Police Commanders and armed robbery operations.

The petitioners stated that the allegations, if proven true, would constitute serious criminal conduct affecting national security and public trust in the Police Service. They also noted that if the claims are found to be false, reckless, or unsubstantiated, they could damage the reputation of the Police Service and cause public alarm.

The document cited Sections 207 and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which address the publication of false news likely to cause fear and alarm, as well as Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), on the transmission of false or misleading electronic communications.

The petitioners are requesting that the Police Service:

1. Invite Mugabe Maase to provide any evidence supporting the allegations;

2. Conduct an immediate investigation to verify the claims;

3. Take appropriate legal action against any individuals found culpable, whether officers or others;

4. Implement measures to preserve public confidence in the Ghana Police Service.

As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not issued a public statement on the petition. The allegations against Mr. Maase have not been independently verified.
