Komfo Anokye doctors suspend strike after Otumfour’s intervention
KUMASI,
Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have called off their industrial action and will resume full duties from 6:00am today, the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association – KADA has announced.
In a press release dated June 9, 2026, KADA said the suspension follows “fruitful engagements and the timely intervention” of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the KATH Hospital Board, Management, and other key stakeholders.
The doctors embarked on the strike over unresolved concerns affecting service delivery at Ghana’s second-largest teaching hospital. While KADA said the issues are yet to be fully resolved, it opted to suspend the action to protect patient care and public health.
“The safety and well-being of patients and the broader public interest remain central to our responsibilities,” KADA stated.
“These have informed our decision to suspend the action and continue the dialogue.”
KADA expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Hospital Board, and Management for facilitating dialogue toward an amicable resolution. The association also acknowledged the Ghana Medical Association’s National Executive Council for its support, plus GRNMA, EmSOG, OAG, HSWU, and Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Nurses and Midwives for their solidarity.
With the strike suspended, patients at KATH can now access normal consultation, ward rounds, surgeries, and emergency services without disruption.KADA said it remains committed to working with stakeholders to ensure all outstanding issues are fully addressed through continued engagement.
