Police investigate alleged shooting involving Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya

The Madina Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into an alleged shooting incident involving former Dome Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Accra Region, a police press release dated June 21, 2026, confirmed.
According to the Regional Public Affairs Unit, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident allegedly occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, while the former lawmaker was visiting her late father’s residence in Kwabenya.
Gunshot injury and vehicle damage reported
The police statement said Hon. Adwoa Safo allegedly sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear during the incident. She subsequently reported the matter to Kwabenya Police and presented a vehicle with registration number GN 3482-24, which police said had visible gunshot damage.
Authorities have issued the victim a Police Medical Report Form, and she is said to be receiving medical attention. The vehicle involved has been retained by police for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
Circumstances still under probe
The Ghana Police Service said investigations are still underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and to identify all persons who may have been involved. No arrests have been announced at the time of filing this report.
The Madina Division Command is leading the probe, with support from the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit headed by Ms. Juliana Obeng [SUPT].
Background of family dispute
The alleged shooting comes amid reported tensions within the family of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Church. Family sources had earlier indicated disagreements over succession and leadership of the church and related institutions following the founder’s passing.
Adwoa Safo, who served as MP for Dome Kwabenya from 2013 to 2025 and also as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has been at the center of public attention in recent months due to the family developments.
Police urge calm
The police have not released further details pending completion of forensic and investigative processes. Authorities are yet to confirm the motive or source of the alleged gunshots.
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to allow investigators to conduct their work without speculation. It also advised anyone with credible information on the incident to report to the nearest police station to aid investigations.
