The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested six private security guards in connection with an alleged shooting incident involving former Dome Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026. According to an update released by the Regional Public Affairs Unit, Accra Region, the arrests followed a search operation conducted after the incident was reported.
Weapons and ammunition retrieved
Police said the search led to the retrieval of one pump-action gun, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment. All exhibits, together with the suspects, have been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.
The press release, signed by Ms. Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, stated that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate were on special duty at a residence in Kwabenya when they received a distress call from the location and proceeded to the scene.

Incident allegedly occurred during ceremony
Preliminary investigations by police indicate that a ceremony was allegedly being held at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe. Upon arrival, it is alleged that Adwoa Safo requested access to the premises, but entry was denied. Police said investigations further revealed that security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injury to Hon. Adwoa Safo. The former MP’s vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks, police added. She had earlier reported the incident to Kwabenya Police and was issued a Police
Medical Report Form.
Probe continues
The Ghana Police Service said investigations are still ongoing to locate and arrest all other persons who may be connected with the alleged incident. No charges have been filed yet as the probe continues.
The update comes a day after the Madina Divisional Command confirmed it was investigating the alleged shooting, which reportedly left the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection with a gunshot injury to her left ear.
Police have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete their work. Anyone with credible information has been asked to report to the nearest police station.
The alleged shooting has drawn public attention amid reported family disputes within the Kristo Asafo Church following the passing of its founder, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo. Authorities say they are committed to a thorough and impartial investigation.
