Police intercept suspected narcotics at Asawase market; two arrested in Kumasi

The Manhyia District Police Command has arrested two men in connection with suspected narcotic drugs found concealed in fertilizer sacks at Asawase Market.
According to a press release from the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the intelligence-led operation was carried out on July 21, 2026, following a tip-off that narcotics were being transported through the market.
A team led by the District Commander, with support from personnel of the Manhyia Divisional CID and Zongo Police Station, moved in and arrested the suspects.
The suspects have been identified as Osman Bassein, 37, and Mohammed Abdul-Razak, 38.
During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, police retrieved 13 fertilizer sacks. An inspection revealed second-hand clothing being used to conceal 100 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The exhibits have been photographed and secured for forensic examination.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say they will be processed in accordance with the law, subject to the outcome of the probe.
The Regional Command commended the public for providing credible information and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities through emergency lines: 18555, 191 or 112.
