WAEC releases provisional results for 620,243 BECE candidates, warns public against result fraudsters

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released the provisional results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination for School Candidates.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, and released on July 29, 2026, a total of 620,243 candidates sat for the exam. This includes 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 schools. The test was conducted at 2,237 centres across the country.

3,601 candidates were absent. WAEC noted that the cohort included 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 with hearing impairment, and 510 with other special educational needs.

Candidates can access their results through their schools via Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, or online at www.waecgh.org.

Malpractice cases

WAEC’s Examination Malpractice Committee met and approved sanctions:

496 candidates: subject results cancelled

105 candidates: entire results cancelled

119 candidates: subject results withheld

48 candidates: entire results withheld

2,722 candidates from 229 schools: subject results still under scrutiny. A final decision is expected by August 31, 2026

WAEC’s warning

The Council cautioned the public against fraudsters claiming they can “upgrade” results for a fee.

“WAEC wishes to reiterate that results are secured and can be authenticated. Persons who engage in such activities do so at their own risk,” the statement said.

WAEC also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their role in the successful conduct of the exams.
