President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Finance to allocate GH¢1 billion in the 2027 Budget as the government’s contribution to a GH¢3 billion revolving National Housing Fund.

Speaking at the maiden National Conference on Housing Finance in Accra on Wednesday, President Mahama said the Fund will support affordable housing projects and expand access to housing finance for Ghanaians.

He explained that the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to address Ghana’s 1.8 million housing unit deficit and make decent housing accessible to low- and middle-income earners.

The President also announced a proposed Easy Rent programme, which will enable workers to access rent advances and repay them in monthly installments, easing the burden of paying huge rent advances upfront.

He further called for innovative financing solutions to help complete the numerous unfinished houses across the country, stressing that housing must be treated as a national priority.

“Every family deserves the security of a decent home. That ambition must guide our policies, shape our investments, and drive our work,” President Mahama stated.

The National Housing Fund, when fully operational, is expected to provide long-term, affordable financing for developers and homebuyers, while stimulating job creation in the construction value chain.
