Kumasi, July 27, 2026 —

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Kenyase No. 2, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, over violations of Asante customs and traditions.

The decision was taken during an Asanteman Traditional Council meeting held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.

The Council, chaired by Otumfuo, reviewed allegations brought against Nana Ababio regarding conduct deemed to breach the customs, norms, and traditions of the Asante Kingdom. After deliberations, the Council resolved that his continued occupancy of the stool was untenable.

Destoolment is the highest disciplinary action in the Asante chieftaincy institution and effectively removes a chief from office. It bars the affected chief from performing traditional duties and representing the stool.

In Asante tradition, a destooled chief may appeal the decision through the appropriate traditional channels, but until such processes are concluded, the stool of Kenyase No. 2 is considered vacant.

The Asanteman Traditional Council did not disclose specific details of the violations during the public announcement. Still, it emphasized that the decision was taken to uphold the sanctity of the stool and preserve Asante customs.

Kenyase No. 2 is a key traditional area under the Asante Kingdom in the Ahafo Region. Following the destoolment, the Asantehene is expected to consult with the kingmakers and elders of Kenyase No. 2 on the way forward for the selection and installation of a new Paramount Chief in accordance with customary procedures.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reiterated the importance of discipline, unity, and respect for tradition among chiefs, noting that the institution of chieftaincy remains central to governance, culture, and development in Asanteman.

The development has generated reactions in Kenyase and across Ahafo, with many residents awaiting further directives from Manhyia on the succession process.
