President Mahama attends installation of Kampakuya Naa Yakubu II as Regent of Dagbon

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday attended the installation ceremony of His Royal Highness Kampakuya Naa Yakubu II as Regent of Dagbon at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The ceremony brought together a wide gathering of traditional authorities, government officials, religious leaders, and members of the Dagbon Kingdom in what was described as a powerful demonstration of unity, continuity, and respect for the cherished customs and traditions of Dagbon.
Clad in full regalia, chiefs and elders performed traditional rites to formally install Kampakuya Naa Yakubu II as Regent, marking a significant moment in the history and governance of the Dagbon Kingdom.
President’s Address
Addressing the gathering, President Mahama congratulated the newly installed Regent on his enskinment. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities to:
- Promote peace in Dagbon and across the country
- Preserve Ghana’s rich cultural heritage
- Advance inclusive national development
The President noted that traditional leadership remains central to maintaining stability and fostering development at the grassroots level.
A Symbol of Unity
The event was attended by paramount chiefs from across the Northern Region, MPs, ministers of state, and members of the diplomatic community. Prayers were offered by religious leaders for peace and progress in Dagbon.
Members of the Dagbon Kingdom expressed appreciation to the President for his presence, describing it as a sign of the government’s respect for tradition and its commitment to the Yendi Accord and lasting peace in the area.
The installation of Kampakuya Naa Yakubu II is expected to further strengthen traditional governance and unity within Dagbon.
