President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang honour Late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho

President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday joined the family of the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and other mourners at a funeral service held in his honour.
The solemn ceremony celebrated the distinguished legacy of Ambassador Gbeho and his invaluable contributions to Ghana’s foreign policy, diplomacy, and national development. Dignitaries, diplomats, clergy, and sympathizers gathered to pay tribute to a statesman described as one of Ghana’s finest diplomats.
Tributes to a Statesman
Speaking at the service, President Mahama conveyed the condolences of the Government and the people of Ghana to the bereaved family.
He honoured the late Ambassador’s enduring service to the nation, noting that Ambassador Gbeho served Ghana with distinction both at home and on the international stage. His work, the President said, helped shape Ghana’s reputation as a respected voice in diplomacy and multilateral relations. Vice President Opoku-Agyemang also joined family members to offer comfort and support during the service.
A Legacy of Service
Ambassador James Victor Gbeho served in several high-profile roles during his career, including as Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and as a senior official at the United Nations and the African Union. He was widely respected for his commitment to peace, regional integration, and Ghana’s global engagement.
The ceremony featured hymns, prayers, and tributes from colleagues in the diplomatic corps who recalled his wisdom, humility, and dedication to public service. The President and Vice President, together with government officials, assured the family of the nation’s support during this period of mourning.
