COCOBOD maintains cocoa producer price for 2025/26 light crop despite global decline

The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Cocoa Board COCOBOD, has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged despite a downward trend in global cocoa prices.
The decision was communicated in a press release dated 12th June 2026 and signed by the Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD.
Producer Price Remains At GH₵1,241.76 Per Load
According to a circular signed by Dr. Francis Baah, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control A&QC, the producer price will stay at GH₵1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans.
That translates to GH₵2,587.00 per bag of 64 kilograms gross. Consequently, a tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags, will continue to attract GH₵41,392.00.
Purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will commence on Thursday, June 18, 2026, nationwide.
Government Prioritizes Farmer Income Stability
COCOBOD said the decision underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers. International cocoa prices have experienced a decline in recent months, but authorities have chosen to maintain the current rate.
“By maintaining the current producer price, the government aims to provide stability and confidence to farmers ahead of the new light crop season,” the statement noted.
The move is expected to shield Ghanaian farmers from global market volatility and encourage continued production ahead of the main crop season.
Stakeholders Notified Ahead Of Purchases
The announcement has been communicated to key stakeholders within the cocoa industry to ensure a smooth commencement of purchases. These include Licensed Buying Companies LBCs, COCOBOD management, relevant ministries, and other sector players.
Cocoa remains Ghana’s second-largest foreign exchange earner after gold. Price stability for farmers is critical to sustaining production levels amid climate and market challenges.
