Ghana’s hopes of securing a medal in the men’s 100m final at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships ended in disappointment after Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah failed to finish on the podium at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.

The two Ghanaian sprinters were unable to overcome Cameroonian star Emmanuel Eseme, who stormed to victory to claim the gold medal in a highly competitive final on Wednesday, May 13.

Joseph Paul Amoah finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a medal, while Abdul-Rasheed Saminu placed sixth in the final.

The duo had raised expectations among home fans after booking places in the final earlier in the day, could not produce medal-winning performances in the decisive race.

Eseme’s victory handed Cameroon the top spot in the men’s sprint event.

The African Senior Athletics Championships are ongoing at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, with athletes from across the continent competing for honours in various track and field events.
