ASMA ranks 2nd in Eastern Region PFM League Table

The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly has recorded a remarkable improvement in public financial management, placing 2nd in the 2025 Public Financial Management league table for the Eastern Region. This marks a significant jump from its 14th position in the 2024 rankings. The annual PFM assessment evaluates Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies on key indicators, including budgeting, budget execution, procurement, internal controls, reporting, and compliance with financial regulations.
Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Addo Aikins attributed the achievement to discipline, teamwork, and strict adherence to financial best practices over the past year. According to him, the Assembly prioritized transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, which reflected positively in the independent assessment.
“The progress we have made is not by accident. It is the result of deliberate efforts to strengthen our systems, ensure value for money, and be accountable to the people we serve,” Hon. Aikins said. He commended the staff of the Finance, Budget, Procurement, and Internal Audit departments for their diligence and professionalism.
He also acknowledged the support of traditional leaders, assembly members, civil society, and development partners who played a role in pushing reforms at the local level. The PFM league table is designed to promote competition among assemblies and encourage better management of resources. A higher ranking often translates to increased confidence from the central government, donors, and investors.
Stakeholders in Abuakwa South have welcomed the news, describing it as a morale booster for the municipality. Some assembly members noted that improved financial management has already led to the timely completion of projects in health, education, and road infrastructure.
The MCE assured residents that the Assembly will not relent but will rather work to clinch the top spot in the next assessment. He said plans are underway to digitize more revenue collection points and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to plug leakages.
The 2025 PFM results are expected to guide resource allocation and capacity-building interventions across the region in the coming year.
